Lexus LBX makes ASEAN debut in Singapore, baby Lexus priced from equivalent of RM 749k

Teased on its website, Lexus Singapore has just launched the Lexus LBX at the ongoing Singapore Motorshow 2024. Only one variant is available, the LBX Cool Grade which is priced at SGD 214,800 (~RM 749,000) and is inclusive of COE.

The LBX sits on the GA-B platform which is similar to the TNGA-B-based European/Japanese Toyota Yaris Cross that is also offered in Singapore. It is the smallest Lexus crossover ever and is marked as the Oval L’s entry SUV model.

The baby Lexus is powered by a 1.5-litre M15A-FXE petrol-hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.5-litre 3-pot unit with an electric motor mounted on the front axle. For the Singaporean market, the combined power output has been detuned from 134 PS to 129 PS but torque remains the same at 185 Nm.

In the rest of the world, the LBX is also available with AWD with an additional rear electric motor but that doesn’t seem bound to the Little Red Dot.

During its global debut in June 2023, Lexus announced that LBX stands for ‘Lexus Breakthrough X(cross)-over’ and in terms of looks, it carries over the Unified Spindle front grille that is also seen on the all-new Lexus RX. Even if it is the baby Lexus model, it still gives off the brand’s usual premium vibes.

The lone LBX variant in Singapore is equipped with the following features as standard:

  • Driver seat lumbar support with memory function
  • Smooth leather and Ultrasuede seat upholstery
  • Vehicle Braking Posture Control (Pitch Control)
  • Head-up display
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Lexus Teammate Advance Park
  • Active Noise Control (ANC)
  • Mark Levinson Premium Surround Sound with 13 speakers
  • Lexus Safety Sense+ (LSS+) 3.0

With the Southeast Asian debut of the Lexus LBX in Singapore, could Malaysia be the baby Lexus’ next destination? At the end of last year, Lexus Malaysia said it would launch at least one new model here in 2024.

Besides the LBX, there are two other likely upcoming Lexus models: the all-new Lexus LM and the battery-electric (BEV) Lexus RZ. Which of these would make it here first?
