8 years jail for suspects that caused fatal Aruz-Waja-Myvi cop car crash in Johor 01

On November 1st, news of a high-speed car chase resulting in the death of a young constable in Johor went viral. The suspects who got away at that time have now been charged with multiple offences with the heaviest penalty being 8 years in jail and a RM 30,000 fine.

According to previous reports, the police officers first gave chase when they came across the Perodua Myvi that was driving around suspiciously. During the chase, the Proton Waja patrol vehicle clipped the Myvi and spun before landing turtle on a Perodua Aruz that was exiting a junction.

Constable Nicholester Dadup Anak Unggat died at the scene of the accident while his partner, Lance Corporal Mohammad Fadhirul Musa, and the 2 passengers in the Perodua Aruz were badly injured.

Police later found the Myvi and arrested 4 suspects including the driver Mohd Shafiq Lokman. During the court hearing at the Johor Magistrate, Mohd Shafiq pleaded guilty for reckless driving.

He was charged under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Other than having to serve 8 years in jail and to pay a RM 30,000 fine, Mohd Shafiq will also have his driving license revoked for 5 years.

Police later found the Myvi that escaped the accident

Other than that, he was also charged with driving without a license under Section 26(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 further earning him another RM 1,800 fine or 3 months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.

But that’s not all, in a separate court the accused was also sentenced to a separate 12 months in jail and RM 5,000 fine or an extra 5 months in jail if he can’t pay the fine, for obstructing a public officer on duty under Section 186 of the Penal Code.

The Perodua Myvi was taken away for further investigation

Separately, Siti Noor Ashikin Muhammad Arifin has also been charged with 8 months in jail and a RM 1,000 fine after pleading guilty for loaning her Myvi to her boyfriend, Mohd Syahrihudin Abdul Majid, who do not have a driving license.

Mohd Syahrihudin has also been fined RM 1,000 or a 3-month jail sentence for driving without a license.

All 3 of the accused along with 1 more friend, Mohd Aiman Romli, who was also in the car during the accident, were also sentenced to 8 months in jail for voluntarily taking amphetamine and methamphetamine.
