Together with the launch of the all-new 2020 BMW X6 xDrive40i M Sport, BMW Malaysia also virtually launched the all-new 2020 BMW 840i Gran Coupé M Sport in conjunction with the introduction of their online-shopping platform. The all-new BMW 840i Gran Coupé M Sport is a fully imported (CBU) model priced at RM 968,800.

The Malaysian-spec BMW 8GC comes with the M Sport package, which include the M Sport differential and brakes, all-wheel steering, adaptive M Suspension and 20-inch M alloy Y-spoke style 728 M wheels with a staggered run-flat tyre setup (275/30 rear and 245/35 front). It also gets the BMW Laserlights with high-beam assistant. The headlight is the most slender of all BMW models. Combined with the large M sport air intake and BMW M Aerodynamic kit, the 840i looks wide and low.

Moving towards the side, the wheelbase of the BMW 8GC has been increased by 20 centimetres over the coupe, which allows space for two frameless doors for the rear passenger side.

A full-LED taillight with a stylised L-shape compliments the horizontal lines along the rear to accentuate the width of the sleek car. Completing the rear end packages is the rhombus-shaped exhaust tailpipe and the M sport package diffuser.

Under the hood, the 840i Gran Coupé M Sport is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six engine that makes 340 PS similar to the all-new X6, but with 50 Nm more torque totalling the figure up to 500 Nm. An 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission drives the rear wheel, allows for a 0-100 km/h time of 5.2 seconds with a top speed of 250 km/h. In terms of efficiency, BMW claims a fuel consumption figure of 7.9-litre/100 km, while C02 emission is 180 g/km.

Inside, there’s an anthracite headliner, glass interior elements, M door sills, M leather steering wheel, Merino extended leather upholstery, fine-wood and high gloss ash grain-grey-metallic trim, with a “Walknappa” black leather for the dashboard.

On to the driver side, there’s a 12.3-inch digital instrument display called BMW Live Cockpit Professional works in tandem with the 10.25-inch BMW navigation system which includes a head-up display.

It supports BMW Connected service support, but only Apple CarPlay is present at the moment, and is paired with a 464-watt Harman Kardon surround sound system playing the sounds through 16-speakers.

Safety-wise, the 840i Gran Coupé M Sport comes with ABS with EBD, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC). BMW’s Driving Assistant Professional ADAS system also comes standard, which features:

• Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
• Lane Change Warning (LCW)
• Lane Keeping Assistant with active side collision protection (LKA)
• Steering and Lane Control Assistant
• Lane Change Assistant (LCA)

There is 6 colour option available for the 8GC – Barcelona Blue, Sonic Speed Blue, Carbon Black, Black Sapphire, Mineral White and Sunset Orange. They can be paired with Merino leather trim in a variety of colour combinations from the usual Black, Night Blue, Tartufo, Cognac and Fiona Red.
