Toyota is set to unveil the all-new, fourth-generation Harrier in Japan next month, followed by selected overseas markets.

According to a report by BitAuto, Toyota and their local Chinese partner, GAC Toyota, have filed for a new trademark called Frontlander.

The publication reckons that the all-new Harrier could be called Frontlander in China, and the model could be sold alongside the Harrier – its identical twin by FAW Toyota.

To recap, many manufacturers in China have multiple joint ventures, in this case Toyota has FAW Toyota and GAC Toyota. Both manufacturers have their own product line-up, but some models have identical twins: Toyota C-HR (GAC Toyota) and Toyota Izoa (FAW Toyota), Toyota Levin (GAC Toyota) and Toyota Corolla (FAW Toyota), as well as the Toyota RAV4 (FAW Toyota) and Toyota Wildlander (GAC Toyota).

As such, the Harrier and Wildlander could mirror the same arrangement, benefitting both GAC Toyota and FAW Toyota.

Apart from China, the Harrier will also be sold in North America. For the North American market, it will be sold as the Venza.

Closer to home, UMW Toyota Motor could be introducing the brand-new Harrier in 2021. In the mean time, Toyota will be introducing a slew of SUVs here, including the highly-anticipated RAV4 and Corolla Cross, over the next couple of months.
