One of the concerns of owning a hybrid vehicle or a fully electric vehicle is the cost of battery replacement. BMW’s solution is to have the high-voltage battery pack with individual modules that can be replaced.
In the BMW 530e, there are 6 cell modules. If only one of the modules is needed to be replaced, owners can simply change that one cell module at a cost of RM 5,000 per cell, rather than replacing the entire battery pack.
BMW Group Malaysia offers a 6-year/100,000 km warranty for the high-voltage batteries. Should a replacement be required within that period, it will be covered by the warranty.
BMW is also working towards sustainability by accounting for the end of the high-voltage battery’s life cycle. Batteries that are no longer suitable for use in a vehicle can be used in energy storage facilities.
The batteries can be combined to form a storage unit that is used as a buffer or backup storage for power from local energy sources such as solar and wind installations.
The current BMW Group lineup in Malaysia with a high-voltage battery includes the plug-in hybrid variants of the BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, the full electric BMW i3s as well as the MINI Countryman plug-in hybrid.
