It’s called the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 and the moniker honours Ferdinand Karl Piëch, born in 1937, who played a significant role in the acquisition of Automobili Lamborghini in 1998 by Audi AG.

The craftsmen at Sant’Agata is keeping the naturally aspirated V12 alive, at least for the Sián FKP 37, by strapping on a 48V electric motor to the gearbox. The 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 on its own makes 785 PS – the highest output ever from a Lamborghini V12 – while the e-motor gives an additional 34 PS.

Combined, the hybrid system generates an output of 819 PS allowing the Sián FKP 37 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 2.8 seconds. Top speed? Over 350 km/h.

The hybrid solution is a tricky one as Lamborghini finds the weight penalty and performance of a lithium-ion battery to be subpar for this application. Instead, it uses a supercapacitor which is three times more powerful than a lithium-ion battery and three times lighter than a battery that produces the same power.

Thanks to the supercapacitor, Lamborghini was able to incorporate a highly advanced regenerative braking system which allows the Sián FKP 37’s energy storage system to be fully charged by using regenerative braking alone.

The energy is then immediately available as a power boost, allowing the driver to achieve increased torque when accelerating in lower gears and up to 130 km/h. After which, the e-motor automatically disconnects, improving the elasticity of the V12 engine.

As a result of all these innovations, the Sián FKP 37 has a better power-to-weight ratio and better acceleration than even the Aventador SVJ. Not to mention, more fuel-efficient.

Unfortunately, Lamborghini will only make 63 units of this hybrid supercar and all of them have been snapped up by connoisseur of the brand.
