Groupe PSA begins export of Peugeot vehicles from Malaysia 01

The first shipment of Malaysia-assembled Peugeot 3008 is expected to arrive in the Philippines at the end of this month. The export business is an important milestone for the Naza Automotive Manufacturing (NAM) plant in Gurun, Kedah, which now counts Groupe PSA as its joint venture partner. The plant is now Peugeot’s export hub for the ASEAN region.

In February 2018, Naza Corporation Holdings and Groupe PSA signed a share sale and joint venture agreement to officially establish shared operation of the NAM plant as Groupe PSA’s manufacturing hub in ASEAN.

Exports of the 3008 will soon be followed by the larger 5008.

“The Peugeot 3008 with the Peugeot 5008 1.6 THP are targeted to be available in the Philippines with more than 4,000 units by 2023. The Philippines is the first ASEAN country where our cars manufactured at NAM is being exported to under the AFTA,” said Laurence Noël, Head of ASEAN & CEO of Naza Automotive Manufacturing, Groupe PSA.

“More cars will be exported to other ASEAN countries very soon,” she added.

However, it should be noted that this is not the first time Peugeot has exported cars from Malaysia. The previous 408 and 207 Sedan was briefly exported from Malaysia to Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia, albeit in very small numbers. At that time, the NAM plant was still wholly owned by Naza.
