Lexus Malaysia has added a new model to its SUV range - the compact Lexus UX, which sits below the Lexus NX. It rides on Lexus’ GA-C platform, essentially a Lexus version of the TNGA-C platform used by the Toyota C-HR.

The model is yet to be launched but Lexus Malaysia is now accepting early bookings for the model.

With a starting price of RM 243,800, the Japan-made Lexus UX will go up against the Germany-made Audi Q2 (from RM 219,720) as well the locally-assembled BMW X1 (from RM 233,800) and Volvo XC40 (from RM 255,888). The Germany-made Mercedes-Benz GLA also sits in the same price range but the all-new model has yet to be launched in Malaysia.

There are three Lexus UX variants on offer, all powered by the same 2.0-litre naturally aspirated M20-FKS Dynamic Force (VVT-iE) engine paired to a CVT-type automatic transmission with a 10-speed virtual ratios (Direct-Shift CVT) driving the front wheels. The engine makes 171 PS at 6,600 rpm and 205 Nm at 4,800 rpm. Claimed 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 9.2 seconds, with a claimed fuel consumption of 6.2-litre/100 km.

All variants are very well equipped. Even the base UX 200 Urban comes with everything that you would expect from a premium car of this price range. It even comes with Lexus Safety System+ advanced driving aids (ADAS). We are looking at you BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

Lexus Safety System+ include Front Pre-Collision System (PCS), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) with Stop & Go function, Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) and Lane Departure Alert (LDA) and Adaptive High Beam.

In terms of boot space, the entry Urban variant gets a smaller 228-litre boot as it comes with a spare wheel (space saver size). The Luxury and F Sport variants use run-flat tyres. (Bridgestone Turanza T005A).

Inside, the Urban’s NuLuxe leather seats can be ordered either in Black or Cobalt colour, while the Luxury variant’s Smooth leather adds one more Ocher colour option. The F Sport variant can be had either in Flare Red or Black.

Like all models imported by Lexus Malaysia, the Lexus UX comes is covered by a 5-year/unlimited mileage warranty.
