Own a recon Audi? Here’s how you can get a warranty from Audi Malaysia

Parallel imported or recon (reconditioned) cars have been a part of (read: plagued) the Malaysian automotive industry for as long as the industry existed.

Many have turned to these unauthorised and unofficial distributors for their significantly lower car prices – it’s not unusual to see grey import cars being 30 to 40% cheaper than officially imported cars.

A small number of consumers turn to the grey market to secure a particular model variant, for example, an Audi RS6 Avant that’s not sold by authorised distributors.

Whatever the reason may be for you to turn to the grey market, a major concern after purchasing your ‘new’ car is warranty and aftersales support – particularly for recalls campaigns.

If you’re concerned whether your parallel imported Audi is involved in any manufacturer-issued recall campaign or worried about where to source genuine parts, the Audi Conformity Check programme is tailored-made for you.

All parallel imported Audi vehicle can now be certified under this programme whereby owners will only have to bring their parallel imported Audi to any authorised Audi Service Centre to obtain the Audi Conformity Certificate for a very modest cost of RM 998 only.

At the authorised service centre, Audi technicians will inspect the following items but not limited to – engine, tyres, wheels, brakes, bodywork and underbody. The car will also be taken to a road driving test.

However, the conformity check does not guarantee that the components installed on your car are genuine parts nor does it verify the authenticity of the car’s service history.

Once the car is awarded the Audi Conformity Certificate, it will be registered in Audi Malaysia’s system and the owner will be informed if the vehicle is involved in any global recall and/or workshop campaign services.

In addition to that, parts replacement performed at the authorised service centre will be covered with a 2-year warranty – a peace of mind that no independent workshops are able to provide.

We’ve heard one too many cases relating to manufacturing defects that flag cars with fire risks, deadly airbags and so on. Having the assurance that you will be notified and protected of any recall campaigns puts your mind at ease that your car will be in a safe driving condition all the time.
