With the launch of the locally-assembled (CKD) Proton X70 nearing, more information regarding the new model are surfacing.

Thanks to the latest Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) production data, it appears that Proton will be introducing a new X70 Premium X 2WD variant as the range-topping variant.

As it is, the current imported X70 Premium 2WD is loaded to the brim, so it will be interesting to see what Proton can cramp into the new X70 Premium X 2WD variant.

For comparison, these are the features available on the Chinese market Geely Boyue Pro, but are unavailable on the outgoing X70:

• 12.3-inch infotainment display
• 12-speaker Bose sound system
• Subwoofer
• Borderless rear-view mirror
• Lane Keep Assist
• Powered tailgate
• Nappa leather steering wheel
• Paddle shifters

Earlier, we mentioned that a powered tailgate could be offered, as rivals such as the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5 already offer this feature.

Local sourcing of several components could also introduce a new head unit, possibly with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.
