Although the Haval H6 HEV hybrid SUV was only launched in Thailand in June 2021, China’s best-selling SUV has been quickly climbing the sales charts ever since. It went from the country’s second most popular C-SUV in July to taking the title in August.
Throughout most of the year, the battle between the C-segment SUVs in the Kingdom is between the Honda CR-V and the MG HS with both models fighting to take the number one position. In just a span of two months, the Haval H6 has managed to dethrone the CR-V with 408 units sold in August.
Meanwhile the CR-V dropped two positions in the eighth month of the year to take third with 280 units sold. The MG HS squeezed by between the two SUVs to take first runner-up with 300 units sold.
Part of the reason why the Honda CR-V slipped two spots might be due to the chip shortage which affected production and deliveries.
Still, the CR-V manages to hold on to the number one spot for the year so far with 3,265 units sold in the first eight months. This is followed by the MG HS with 2,981 units and the Subaru Forester with 1,364 units.
The Haval H6 manages to sell 728 units in total which puts it in fourth place. That’s impressive given that the brand is still very new in the country. Haval’s parent company, Great Wall Motor (GWM) has an ambitious plan in the works to transform Thailand as its automotive hub in Southeast Asia.
Aside from the Haval H6, GWM is planning to bring in the Ora Good Cat EV into Thailand soon. We’re interested to see how the not-so-tiny EV (it’s around the size of a Proton X50) drives, so stay tuned for that.
