Though it has been 3 years since the fourth-generation Nissan X-Trail (T33) made its debut as the Nissan Rogue in North America, it would take another 2 years for its arrival in its home market of Japan.
Since then, the all-new X-Trail has been sold in Singapore where it was launched at the 2023 Singapore Motor Show and the next destination in the region seems to be Indonesia. This is based on the latest Motor Vehicle Sales Value (Nilai Jual Kenderaan Bermotor, NJKB) document obtained by various Indonesian automotive media.
Listed in the document are two variants of the all-new X-Trail, a VE 4X2 and a VL 4X4 which are listed to be priced at IDR 446 million (~RM 137k) and IDR 469 million (~RM 144k) respectively. The NJKB prices are not the finalized value as they do not include taxes imposed by the Indonesian Customs.
With the exception of the Nissan Livina which is a rebadged pre-facelift Mitsubishi Xpander, Nissan no longer assembles any of its current line-up locally (CKD) as it closed down its Indonesian plant in 2020. Hence, the Indonesian-bound X-Trail will be imported (CBU) from Japan.
Also based on the document, the two variants will be powered by the same powertrain β an e-Power series hybrid system that combines the 1.5-litre 3-cylinder VC (variable compression) Turbo engine with an electric motor or two depending on the configuration.
The engine alone produces 144 PS and 250 Nm but it doesnβt send power to the wheels. Instead, the powerplant acts as a generator to recharge the 1.8 kWh battery that powers the BM46 electric motor (204 PS/330 Nm) on the front and the rear-mounted MM48 electric motor (136 PS/195 Nm) in 4WD variants.
As mentioned earlier, both 2WD and 4WD variants are listed in the NJKB document which could mean that Nissan Indonesia could be bringing both variants. Singapore also offers both the FWD e-Power and 4WD e-4orce variants which start from SGD 254,800 (~RM 869k).
Closer to home, it remains to be seen if the T33 X-Trail will be launched here. For now, the CKD previous-generation T32 X-Trail is still listed for sale in Malaysia with 4 variants:
