After making its way in some major markets in Southeast Asia including Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines, the next stop for the all-new 2022 Lexus NX is Indonesia. Looks like Malaysians have to wait a little longer sooner.
Fully imported (CBU) from Japan, the second-generation Lexus NX is launched in the archipelago at the ongoing Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week 2022 (GJAW 2022) which is held from 12-March to 20-March. On display are the Lexus NX 350h and the NX 450h+ but only the former is launched in Indonesia with two variants:
The flagship NX 450h+ is powered by a 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system with a combined output of 306 PS and 227 Nm is only shown for display at the week-long autoshow. Meanwhile, the NX 350h is powered by a 2.5-litre full-hybrid system that makes 242 PS and 239 Nm.
Besides the hybrid variants, Lexus Indonesia is also bringing in the petrol-powered NX 250 Luxury but prices have yet to be announced. The NX 250 is powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre Dynamic Force engine that produces 199 PS and 249 Nm.
The all-new NX is the latest electrified model in Lexus Indonesia’s line-up joining the UX 250h and UX 300e as well as the ES 300h and LS 500h.
Despite looking very similar to the last-generation NX, everything else is brand-new as it sits on the TNGA-K platform that is shared with the Toyota RAV4 and Toyota Harrier, two SUVs with very contrasting sales in Malaysia.
The Indonesian-spec NX 350h variants share the same powertrains that we have mentioned earlier in the article and the differences are the features. Besides the sportier trims and wheels, the F Sport also comes with adaptive variable suspension (AVS) which promises excellent ride comfort even when driving through rough terrain.
Safety features that come as standard on the NX 350h variants include all-speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Pre-Collision System, Lane Tracing Assist, and 10 airbags.
Following the all-new Lexus NX’s Indo debut, could Malaysia be its next destination? It seems likely as a few have been spotted in the country on car transporters.
As for the powertrains, it’s likely that Lexus Malaysia would be offering both the newly-developed turbocharged 2.4-litre (279 PS/430 Nm) and naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre petrol units. The hybrid variants could be available only on special order basis much like earlier Lexus models.
