Hyundai Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has officially launched the all-new fully imported from Korea (CBU) 2020 Hyundai Sonata in Malaysia after a few years of being absent from the market. This is launched alongside the Hyundai Kona.

The all-new Sonata is only available with a single variant with a special introductory price of RM 189,888 inclusive of tax savings for the first 50 units. The D-segment sedan competes with the likes of the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.

What are the features of the all-new 2020 Hyundai Sonata?

The all-new Sonata makes its right-hand-drive (RHD) debut in Malaysia. That's right, we are the first RHD market to get the eighth-generation Sonata, even ahead of Australia.

On the outside, the all-new Sonata gets LED head and tail lamps along with LED DRLs. The design is sporty and mimics a coupe. The all-new Sonata is Hyundai's first sedan designed with Hyundai’s Sensuous Sportiness design language.

In fact, the design is derived from the Le Fil Rouge concept car that was shown at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.

The sole variant of the all-new Sonata is loaded with features like a heads-up display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8.0-inch infotainment display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, and a Qi wireless charging pad.

Powertrain

The all-new Sonata is powered by a 2.5-litre SmartStream G2.5 MPI naturally-aspirated petrol engine which produces 180 PS and 232 Nm. This is paired to a 6-speed automatic that drives the front wheels.

Speaking of the automatic transmission, it uses buttons instead of a conventional gear lever. Hyundai calls it an Electronic Shift Button selector and it uses shift-by-wire technology.

Safety features

The all-new Sonata comes with 6 airbags and a 360-degree camera which Hyundai calls the Surround View Monitor. While it lacks ADAS. It does compensate with a Blind-spot View Monitor that works similar to Honda’s LaneWatch.

Instead of being displayed on the infotainment screen like LaneWatch, Hyundai’s feature displays the video feed from the camera on the left and right side of the car onto the digital instrument cluster. This gives it a more direct feed to the driver.

The all-new Hyundai Sonata comes with a choice of 6 exterior colours which are White Cream, Shimmering Silver, Nocturne Grey, Oxford Blue, Midnight Black and Flame Red.

Different exterior colours offer different interior colours. The Oxford Blue and Flame Red exterior colours are matched with the black leather interior; Shimmering Silver exterior colour with the Greige two-tone leather interior; while the White Cream, Nocturne Grey and Midnight Black exterior colours are matched with the Camel two-tone leather interior.

It also comes with a 5-year or 300,000 km warranty, whichever comes first, and is available for viewing at all Hyundai showrooms nationwide beginning 31-October 2020.
