Just last week, the media was given a preview of the all-new 2020 Hyundai Sonata and it seems that Malaysia might be the first RHD market to have the D-segment sedan.
Now, Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has announced that the all-new Sonata is opened for bookings at its website.

This gives Malaysians an opportunity to try an alternative to the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord with a bit of premium kimchi flavour. However, Hyundai has quoted the prices of the all-new Sonata would start at ‘RM 20x,xxx’.
At that price, it is much higher than the Accord, Camry, but slots in between a few variants of the Mazda 6. Of note, both the Mazda 6 and Toyota Camry are also fully imported and yet the Hyundai Sonata is quoted slightly above RM 200,000.
What are the specs and equipment?
The all-new Sonata is powered by a 2.5-litre Smartstream G2.5 MPI naturally-aspirated petrol engine (180 PS/232 Nm) which is mated to a 6-speed automatic that drives the front wheels. This will be the only variant on offer.
It will be equipped with LED headlights and taillights, an 8-inch infotainment display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, Qi wireless charging pad, and 6 airbags.
Model shown is the Nexo but it functions similarly to the Sonata
It does lack in Hyundai’s SmartSense ADAS suite but you do get Blind-spot View Monitor which works similar to Honda’s LaneWatch. Unlike LaneWatch which displays the video feed from the passenger side-wing mirror onto the infotainment display, Hyundai’s solution displays the video feed from cameras on both the left and right side of the car onto the digital instrument cluster.
If you’re interested, you can head over to Hyundai Malaysia’s website and book a unit for RM 888. Customers who book now will also stand a chance to be invited to the Sonata’s launch event.
