The upcoming 2020 Kia Sorento looks the business. As seen in our Geneva Motor Show post, the 7-seater Sorento design is heavily influenced by its American-only Kia Telluride, which looks more upscale and sophisticated as compared to the rounder looks of its predecessor.

Along with the refreshed exterior design, the platform and engine is all-new too. The overall length has been extended by 10 mm than its predecessor, while the wheelbase is up 35 mm to 2,815 mm.

Two engine options will be offered, starting with the new four-cylinder 2.2-litre diesel engine, producing 199 horsepower and 404Nm paired to a new 8-speed double-clutch transmission (8DCT).

For the first time, a hybrid option will be offered. This comprise of a 1.6-litre T-GDi (turbocharged gasoline direct injection) engine paired to a 59 horsepower electric motor and 1.49 kWH battery. Together, it produce 227 horsepower 350Nm of torque. A plug-in hybrid option will also be offered in the future.

The Sorento comes with a choice of front or four-wheel drive, although the plug-in hybrid model will only be available with the latter.

Now in the interior department, the interior exudes a more premium feel. Upfront, there’s a double-wide screens - 12.3-inch for the instrument cluster accompanied by a 10.3-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. Kia has not provided further detailed look on the rear seats and boot space, but expect this to be class-leading.

The interior trims are covered in posh leather upholstery, LED ambient lighting and two-tone steering wheel, which emphasize on the SUV’s upmarket push. The angular air-vent and door handle design covered in metallic silver creates a striking balance with the rest of the interior.

Expect the Sorento to be kitted with a variety of high-tech safety features, which includes Kia’s first Multi-collision brake system. The system applies the brake when the airbags have been deployed after an initial collision. Eight airbag count is standard, including front-seat center side and knee airbags.
