Looks like Malaysia isn’t the only country with a busy week for car launches, Thailand is also seeing another car being launched this week with the unveiling of the all-new 2021 Isuzu MU-X.

In fact, it has been nearly a year since the all-new D-Max has been unveiled on which the all-new MU-X shares most of its underpinnings.

Distinct exterior

On the outside, the MU-X looks more distinctive than the D-Max and the main emphasis here is luxury. The MU-X has an intimidating presence on the outside with a large front grille. Some of you might have remembered that the exterior was leaked in patent images a few months before.

Bi-LED headlights and LED daytime running lights are available on some variants as is the power tailgate with jam protection. Adding to the looks are the alloy wheels which customers can choose from 17-, 18-, or 20-inch wheels.

There are 6 colours to choose from which are Marrakesh Brown, Dolomite Pearl White, Etna Red, Bavarian Black Mica, Iceberg Silver, and Bohemian Silver Metallic. So, yeah, 2 different shades of silver to select.

Plush interior

The interior of the all-new MU-X is taken from the all-new D-Max but Isuzu has added a touch of luxury and premium materials for they like to call a “masterpiece”. Some variants have added ambient lighting along with plush brown leather seats for that added luxury feel.

The all-new MU-X comes with 3-row seats and the rear can be folded flat to give more boot room. It is also equipped with an electric parking brake with auto brake hold function and automatic dual-zone climate control.

The all-new SUV also comes with a 9-inch infotainment screen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are also ample charging ports in the SUV and even a power socket on the centre console for the second-row passengers.

Reliable powerplant

There are 2 engine options available on the all-new MU-X which are shared with the D-Max. The first is the turbocharged 1.9-litre Ddi Blue Power 4-cylinder diesel engine which produces 150 PS and 350 Nm.

The top-of-the-range models however use a turbocharged 3.0-litre Ddi Blue Power diesel engine which produces 190 PS and 450 Nm. These engines are mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The all-new MU-X promises to deliver better comfort, ride, and stability. This is aided by the use of a double-wishbone setup at the front while the rear uses an improved 5-link suspension.

State-of-the-art safety

As this all-new MU-X will try to stand out from even its D-Max brother, the safety features that are equipped on this SUV is pretty smart with an ADAS safety suite that uses stereo cameras similar to Subaru’s EyeSight.

This works in conjunction with the 2 radars and 8 sensors that are placed around the SUV.

Some of the safety features include ACC with stop and go, AEB, LDW, BSM, RCTA, and automatic high beam. The all-new MU-X also comes equipped with 6 airbags as standard.

Prices for the all-new Isuzu MU-X start from THB 1.109 million for the 1.9 Active all the way to THB 1.579 million for the 3.0 Ultimate 4x4.

With the all-new D-Max set to arrive in Malaysia in 2022, maybe the MU-X could return around the same time. The specs are definitely impressive for a large SUV like this especially one that features ACC.
