Honda has announced that the 11th-generation 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback (codenamed FL) will go on sale in Japan on 3-September. Two trims will be available – LX and EX – priced at JPY 3.19 million (around RM 123k) and JPY 3.54 million (around RM 136k) respectively.

Unlike the previous FC-generation Honda Civic, the all-new 2022 Honda Civic is offered only as a hatchback in Japan, following the discontinuation of the sedan.

At launch, the Japan-spec 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback is powered by a sole 1.5-litre VTEC turbo four-cylinder mill with 182 PS and 240 Nm, mated to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT.

Honda says there will be a hybrid variant of the Civic with the 2-motor ‘e:HEV’ hybrid system and the spicy Type R will arrive in 2022.

As mentioned during the global debut, the 11th-gen Civic Hatchback has grown larger than before, which aids interior space with an addition 36 mm rear legroom. Visibility is improved as well from the more upright windscreen.

In terms of equipment levels, both trims feature the same 18-inch wheels albeit in different finishing. The EX trim adds LED fog lamps, active cornering lights, powered front seats, 10.2-inch infotainment screen, 12-speaker Bose sound system, and suede inserts on the seats.

As standard, the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback comes with the Honda Sensing ADAS suite that includes:

• Adaptive Cruise Control with Low Speed Follow (ACC w/ LSF)
• Lane Keep Assist (LKA)
• Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (BSM, RCTA)
• Traffic Jam Assist (TJA)
• Low-speed Braking Control (LSBC)

Closer to home, the all-new 2022 Honda Civic Sedan is gearing up for its ASEAN debut in Thailand. Meanwhile, the Malaysian launch has been delayed from its initial plan which was sometime in late-Q3 / early-Q4 of this year.
