Like the US, the Accord is an extremely important model to China. More so considering that the Honda Accord is China’s best-selling D-segment sedan at the time of writing (January to April: 73,560 units).

GAC Honda will be offering 7 variants of the all-new Accord in China, with prices starting from CNY 179,800 (~RM 116k) for the entry-level Comfort variant and tops out at CNY 258,800 (~RM 167k) for the Flagship variant.

Two powertrains are available. The first is the familiar turbocharged 1.5-litre engine, outputting 192 PS and 260 Nm, mated to a CVT-type automatic transmission.

More importantly, the Accord is among the first few Honda models to debut the new e:PHEV system. As the name implies, this is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system. At the heart of the Accord’s e:PHEV system is a naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine mated to an e-CVT.

The engine is good for 183 PS, while the electric motor does 148 PS. It allows the Accord e:PHEV to complete the century sprint in just 7.61 seconds, whilst returning an average fuel consumption of 4.87-litre/100 km.

Like any other PHEV, the Accord e:PHEV gets an average-sized battery pack. In the Accord, the battery pack is 17.7 kWh and is mounted in the boot. On one hand, the battery pack is well protected when mounted in such a location, but the flip side is that boot space is compromised.

If you’re wondering where the physical climate control buttons went (US market car still gets the regular climate control buttons), Honda integrated those into the central knob, which can also be used to control the audio system and lighting system.
