The current Lexus NX made its global debut at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show, before going on sale later that year. The BMW X3- and Mercedes-Benz GLC-rivaling Lexus NX is now in the sixth year of its model life and a replacement is imminent in 2021.
Sales in Japan is still ongoing but Japanese dealers say an announcement on an second generation all-new Lexus NX can be expected in mid-2021.
The model probably make its global debut at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the same place the facelifted NX made its debut in 2017. However, an early surprise debut in April’s Shanghai Auto Show cannot be ruled out.
Sales is not expected to begin until late-2021/early-2022.
The current, outgoing generation NX rides on the same platform as the previous generation Toyota Harrier, which has since been replaced by an all-new generation TNGA-K platform-based one, which also underpins the Toyota RAV4 and Toyota Camry.
The second generation Lexus NX will of course follow the same trajectory, benefitting from updates already deployed in the all-new 2020 Toyota Harrier.
Styling wise, we expect the current NX’s sharp and angular lines to be toned down, and will share a similarly curvaceous styling cue as its little brother the Lexus UX.
The introduction of the smaller UX should allow Lexus to better differentiate the NX by making it bigger. The current NX sits in a rather odd in-between position, sized between a BMW X1 and BMW X3/Mercedes GLC.
In Malaysia, prices for the current generation Lexus NX starts from:
Price for 2020 Lexus NX |
NX 300 Urban |
RM 303,117 |
NX 300 Premium |
RM 321,850 |
NX 300 F Sport |
RM 336,018 |
Prices are inclusive of SST discount for imported models (Lexus NX is imported from Japan, thus the higher price), valid until 30-June 2021.
Since 2018, Lexus has dropped the 200t designation for the NX. All variants powered by the 2.0-litre direct injection, twin-scroll turbo four-cylinder 8AR-FTS engine are now badged as NX 300.
