A recent post by Hyundai-Sime Darby Motor (HSDM) previewing the upcoming Hyundai Kona has an interesting teaser, in the form of the all-new Hyundai Sonata.

Yes, HSDM has teased the all-new Hyundai Sonata, hinting that they want a share of the D-segment market. 

While we did spot the all-new Hyundai Sonata some time last year, that car belongs to Hyundai Motor Company (HMC), which has nothing to do with HSDM. This is due to the fact that HMC operates the Hyundai Training Academy in Mutiara Damansara. The same training academy also houses some interesting Hyundai models that aren't sold in Malaysia.

It remains to be seen which powertrain will HSDM offer on the all-new Sonata, but globally, it features a range of Smartstream-branded powertrains, including a 1.6-llitre turbocharged petrol engine. Transmission choices include a 6- or 8-speed automatic units.

The last Hyundai Sonata that was sold by HSDM was the pre-facelift LF-generation model. The facelift model was never offered in Malaysia.

When it goes on sale in Malaysia, the Hyundai Sonata will compete against some well-established rivals, such as the Honda Accord, Mazda 6, Toyota Camry, and Volkswagen Passat.
