After 8 long years of being on sale, Perodua’s most affordable model, the Perodua Axia, will soon be replaced by a new generation model.
Codenamed D74A, our friends over at Funtasticko said that development work is currently ongoing for the new hatchback.
What do we know about the next-gen Axia?
For starters, there is a good chance that the all-new Axia will be underpinned by the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform, just like the Perodua Ativa and soon-to-be launched Perodua Alza.
Apart from that, there is a good possibility that the all-new Axia will drop its 4-speed automatic transmission in favour of the newer, more advanced Dual-mode CVT (D-CVT) that recently found its way into the Myvi.
It remains to be seen what engine will be powering Perodua’s entry-level model.
The current Axia already offers the ASA 2.0 AEB suite
Furthermore, given that the current model is equipped with the Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) AEB suite, there is a good chance for the all-new model to build upon that, possibly adding more features to the mix.
When will Perodua launch the all-new Axia?
Will Perodua offer a Style variant with the all-new Axia?
According to the source, the all-new Perodua Axia is said to enter production later this year and launch in Q1 2023.
The all-new Axia could be introduced ahead of its Indonesian cousins, the Daihatsu Ayla and Toyota Agya.
