Looks like Proton’s sales are well and truly back on track because they have managed the amazing feat of exceeding last year's sales performance. As of August 2020, Proton has sold 61,672 units, which is 46 units more than in 2019.
We know what you’re thinking: it’s just 46 units more! But bear in mind that our country came to a complete standstill for close to 2 months in an effort to curb the coronavirus pandemic, so this is a huge feat!

August 2020 is Proton’s second-best month of the year moving 11,378 units. Although that is 14 percent less than July, it is still an improvement of 24.7 percent compared to the same month in 2019.
Market share forecast for the month is at 21.6 percent while year-to-date market share is estimated to be slightly higher at 21.7 percent.
Three Proton models maintained its status as the market leader of their classes. The Proton Persona (2,411 units sold) managed to beat its foreign B-segment rivals at bay while the Proton Exora (630 units sold) retains its crown as the best-seller in its segment.
The Proton X70, of course, remains the nation’s best-selling SUV moving 2,791. According to Proton, the X70 didn’t just retain its position but also managed to pull ahead of its closest rivals as well.
One model noticeably not on the best-seller list is the Proton Saga, looks like after 2 successful month beating out the Perodua Bezza it is now back to being the second best-selling A-segment sedan in Malaysia with 4,784 units sold.
“Proton is pleasantly surprised by how quickly we have been able to recover the lost sales during the MCO period, as it only took us three months to get back on track. By exceeding our YTD volume in August 2019 we are quietly confident of recovery from the headwinds of Covid-19.
“The positive effect this has on the company, our employees and the vendor community cannot be understated and we hope to continue this trend until the end of the year so as to give the automotive industry ecosystem a strong boost,” said Roslan Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer, Proton Edar.
