ASEAN NCAP celebrates turning 10 with Toyota as the star 01

ASEAN NCAP turns 10 this year and fittingly marked the occasion by handing out awards recognising vehicle safety milestones within the region. Unsurprisingly, Toyota were among the big winners of the night with four awards and just had to share with the world.

Toyota Daihatsu Engineering & Manufacturing (TDEM), Toyota’s regional office in Asia for engineering, manufacturing and other functions, today announced that Toyota received multiple “Decade of Safer Vehicle Awards” in conjunction with the ASEAN NCAP’s 10th Anniversary Celebration.

“Toyota has a long history in Asia, wherein we have been recognised by our customers as the foremost brand for QDR- Quality, Reliability and Durability- and safety. We started production activities in countries such as Thailand and Malaysia as early as the 1960s, and over the last six decades, we have strived to develop the best products not only to suit our beloved Asean customers’ needs, but also to improve and adopt safety technologies as part of our fundamental responsibility as a mobility company, prioritising the improvement of road and traffic safety in this region,” said Prasanna Ganesh, Executive Vice President of TDEM.

Toyota remains committed and is striving towards its ultimate goal of zero traffic fatalities. This comprises continuously improving its vehicle safety technologies and performance with focus on three essential elements; vehicle (advancing safety technology), people (educating drivers, passengers and pedestrians toward traffic safety) and traffic environment (supporting safer traffic infrastructure).

Furthermore, in its pursuit of ‘Real-World Safety,’ Toyota is learning from real accident data and incorporating such knowledge into vehicle development under the ‘Integrated Safety Management Concept,’ where individual safety technologies and systems are designed to collaborate with each other in various vehicle operation stages, from parking to advanced safety, pre-collision safety, collision safety and rescue.

“Better late than never.” Some despise it, others begrudgingly agree with it but he swears by it… much to the chagrin of everyone around him. That unfortunately stems from all of his project cars not running most of the time, which in turn is testament to his questionable decision-making skills in life. A culmination of many wrongs fortunately making a right; much like his project cars on the rare occasions they run, he’s still trying to figure out if another project car is the way to go.
