August 2023 car sales jumps 13 % over previous month, 2nd highest monthly figures for the year

It’s proven to be a stellar August 2023 for new car sales as the monthly figures rang in at 71,745 units, representing a solid 13 percent jump over the July 2023 that recorded 63,676 units.

Compared with the corresponding period in 2022, the 2023 numbers accounted for a 6 percent climb as well.

Furthermore, the numbers for August 2023 also made it the second highest ever monthly sales for new cars in 2023 as well as only the second time that monthly sales figures have breached the 70,000 marks this year.

For the time being, the highest every monthly sales for 2023 remains the month of March with 78,849 units sold.

The strong sales in August 2023 can be attributed to a number of factors, namely the overall better performances across the board from carmakers, improved supply chain and National Day promotional campaigns by some carmakers.

Looking forward to the end of September 2023, the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) expects the figures to be largely similar to that of August 2023.
