We may be seeing Bermaz more in the future, especially when it comes to electric vehicles (EVs), as revealed in a report by Maybank Investment Bank (Maybank IB).
First things first, Bermaz Auto has plans to bring in not one, but several EVs in the near future.
Among the models that Bermaz Auto plans to launch in Malaysia include the Kia EV6, Kia e-Niro, Kia Sportage Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (PHEV), Peugeot 3008 EV, Peugeot 508 Hybrid, and the Mazda MX-30.
Quite an extensive list of models, but Bermaz Auto was quick to point out that these launches are subject to Malaysia EV policy, which is expected to be announced later this month.
In an effort to overcome range anxiety faced by most EV owners, Bermaz Auto will be collaborating with private charging operators. The EV models will have subscription-based plans as well.
Kia and Peugeot set to be revived as well
Bermaz is also committed to turn around Kia and Peugeot by addressing legacy issues such as parts availability, customer satisfaction, and after-sales services.
The company also plans to locally-assemble (CKD) three Kia models in Malaysia, namely the Kia Sportage, Kia Carnival, and Kia Seltos. But these won't happen until at least 2022.
Later this month, the company also launch the facelifted Peugeot 3008 and Peugeot 5008, while the Peugeot 2008 is expected to be launched within the fourth quarter of the year.
