After the Proton X90, Proton is due to introduce another model next year, but it will be a sedan. Like all recent Proton models, it will be based on Geely, to be specific - a Geely Emgrand.

The Internet has taken the liberty to call it Proton S50, which is the most likely name based on the company’s recent trademark filings.

We still don’t know if the new model will take the place of the current Proton Persona or the discontinued Proton Preve. A 1.5-litre 3-cylinder engine is almost certain, based on Proton's investment into a new engine plant. Whether will it be turbocharged, or at what power output level, is still unclear.

The latest set of photos shared by The Ajerul gave us a clearer view of the front-end. A monocular camera is clearly visible. The emblem on the grille is quite large, suggesting that it may house a millimeter wave radar hardware, which is different setup from the current lower front bumper-mounted unit used on existing Proton models like the X50 and X70, or we could be wrong and it's just a camera-only system.

Regardless of the hardware setup, having ACC is unique because the Chinese market Geely Emgrand don't come with this feature. Like the Proton X90, the Proton S50 may benefit from features not available in the original Geely donor car.

It’s hard to tell from the photos, but sequential turn signals may be possible too.

Given that Proton has just commenced production of the Proton X90 earlier this year, it’s quite unlikely for Proton’s Tanjung Malim plant to phase in another all-new model so soon.

It is more likely that the Proton S50 will only be introduced in 2024. It will be a spiritual successor to the C-segment Proton Preve but its price will likely be in the range of the B-segment Toyota Vios and Honda City.
