For most car buyers in Malaysia, fuel consumption is one of the key factors in their buying decision, which is why we subject every car to the WapCar fuel consumption test. To date, we’ve tested well over 40 cars and you can check out the full Ratings list here.

That list, however, includes cars of all types and segments. In this article, we’re narrowing the focus to cars that are priced under RM 100k.

5. Perodua Axia 1.0 AV, fuel consumption - 6.5-litre/100 km

After driving for 113.3 km and refuelling 7.323 litres, a calculated fuel consumption of 6.5-litre/100 km was obtained.

The onboard trip computer displayed an average of 6.2-litre/100 km, which is fairly close to the actual figure.

4. Toyota Vios 1.5G, fuel consumption - 6.5-litre/100 km

Two fuel consumption tests were conducted for the Toyota Vios. The first test returned 6.0 l/100km from a 103.9 km trip (50% city, 50% highway) and refuelling 6.229 litres.

The second test resulted in 7.1 l/100km from a 133.0 km trip (50% city, 50% highway) and refuelling 9.522 litres.

Without disregarding both results, an average fuel consumption of 6.55-litre/100 km was calculated.

3. Honda City 1.5L V, fuel consumption - 6.3-litre/100 km

Like the Toyota Vios, two fuel consumption tests were conducted with the first returning 7.2-litre/100 km from a 102.3 km trip and refuelling 7.38 litres. The second test resulted in 5.3-litre/100 km from a 97.1 km trip and refuelling 5.19 litres.

An average fuel consumption of 6.3-litre/100 km is calculated for the Honda City.

2. Perodua Bezza 1.3 AV, fuel consumption - 6.3-litre/100 km*

After covering 120 km (70% city, 30% highway) and using up 7.608 litres of fuel in the Perodua Bezza 1.3 AV, the calculated fuel consumption works out to 6.34-litre/100 km.

*Note that the start/stop feature was disabled during this test, which is the only exception in this list.

1. Nissan Almera 1.0L Turbo, fuel consumption - 5.8-litre/100 km

Similarly to the Toyota Vios and Honda City, we’ve conducted the fuel consumption test twice on the Nissan Almera.

From the two tests, an average result of 5.8-litre/100 km was obtained.

And thus concludes the list of the most fuel-efficient cars we’ve tested so far that are priced under RM 100k.

We'd like to note that the Perodua Myvi wasn't tested according to the WapCar Ratings standard and was disqualified. We expect that the Myvi would have made it to this list otherwise as owners have reported figures of around 6 to 6.5-litre/100 km.
