BMW i4 launching in Malaysia soon; Johor to Ipoh in one charge
First teased by BMW Malaysia earlier this year, it’s now confirmed that the BMW i4 is set to be launched soon, joining the new range of electric offerings by BMW that includes the BMW iX and iX3.
Detailed specifications have yet to be released, though the press release states, "the sports sedan offers the electrical power output of up to 340 PS, a 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds and a WLTP electric driving range of up to 590 km on a single charge."

This suggests that we’ll be getting the eDrive40 variant at launch, which is the rear-wheel drive variant with 340 PS/430 Nm. It does 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds while top speed is limited to 190 km/h.
Battery capacity is rated at 84-kWh with the aforementioned 590 km driving range in the WLTP cycle. The driving distance from Johor to Ipoh stated in Google Maps is 541 km, so this trip is theorectically possible in one single charge.
A 200-kW DC fast charger allows up to 164 km of driving range in just 10 minutes. With the regular 11 kW AC charger, charging from 0-100% takes around 8.5 hours.
Interestingly, the teaser did mention that the iX3 will offer up to 530 PS, which could hint that the more powerful M50 variant will arrive at a later point in time.

The BMW i4 is essentially the EV version of the 4 Series Gran Coupe, sharing the same visual cues including the controversial front grille. The interior is also largely similar, except for the curved dual-widescreen that dominates the dashboard.

Along with the BMW iX eDrive50 and iX3, registration of interest for the BMW i4 is also open on BMW Malaysia’s official website.
As the all-electric BMW range expands in Malaysia, DC Fast Chargers will be installed at all BMW i dealers for public use to accelerate the charging infrastructures in Malaysia, along with Rapid-charging DC Chargers to be made available for quick on-the-go charging at selected dealerships nationwide.
