BMW M3 police car isn’t a movie prop after all, but it’s still not a police car. Here’s why

Yesterday, photos of a BMW M3 police car started circulating online much to the excitement of fans. But various media reported that the BMW M3 is not a real police car but a movie prop. Now, we have confirmation that the car was indeed commissioned by the police but this doesn’t mean the M3 is a real police car. Yet.
So, why exactly did the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) decide to give the BMW M3 a police uniform? Think of the M3 as a concept car of sorts.
Yes, the BMW M3 police car is merely a proof of concept and will not be an active-duty police car.
The M3, along with two BMW X3s and a Volkswagen Tiguan, are undergoing tests as potential models for the escort officer branch (CPP), Department of Internal Security and Public Order (KDNKA), and PDRM.

We understand that these cars are not cheap. The M3 costs RM 664,800, the X3 ranges from RM 287,000 to RM 314,000, and the Tiguan around RM 165,000 and more even though federal government-owned vehicles don't need to pay tax . But bear in mind that this is a test run.
So, this doesn’t mean that PDRM is buying these cars or have already bought these cars. Only if the M3, X3, and Tiguan pass master will they join the squad as police cars. Therefore, we advise you not to be too quick to say it’s a waste of tax payer’s money.
At least for now, these cars are not going into service in the police force. If these do get the green light, perhaps they will join the Helang Squad alongside the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X. Or they could also join the Honda Civic Type R in escort duties for VIPs.
