The BMW X5 xDrive45e is Germany's best-selling BMW X5 variant, according to data sourced by the nation's Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA).

The plug-in hybrid variant makes up 47.5 percent of all X5s sold. With nearly half of all X5s sold being the hybrid, it signifies a shift in German customers' mindset, people who typically still favour diesel-powered cars.

Hammering the point home is that the hybrid X5 is one of the most expensive variants on sale there, outpriced only by the X5 M Performance, as well as other M cars in the brand's lineup.

The X5 xDrive45e gets a 3.0-litre B58 turbocharged inline-six petrol engine that's combined with an electric motor to make a combined system output of 394 PS and 600 Nm of torque. The system is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

In full-electric mode, the plug-in hybrid X5 has a range of up to 77 km on a full charge, and is able to travel at a top speed of 135 km/h.

The BMW X5 xDrive45e M Sport is the sole variant sold by BMW Malaysia, priced from RM 428,800. This SST-free price (valid until 31-December 2021) is on-the-road, excluding insurance and BMW's extended service package.
