Due to low demand, Proton has decided to suspend bookings for the Standard variant of the Proton X50. Proton has seen over 40,000 bookings for the X50 since its launch in October 2020, but bookings for the standard variant only account for 5%.
The Edge reports that while Proton had expected the X50 to garner a lot of interest, the demand has been overwhelming, especially for the Flagship variant.
Proton will focus on the larger population of bookings, which is for the non-Standard variants. Bookings for the standard variant will resume when delivery is stabilized.
The Proton X50 comes in four variants, namely the Standard, Executive, Premium and Flagship
The current wait time for the Proton X50 is about 6 months, and Proton plans to shorten this with various measures. The temporary suspension of the Standard variant is one of them.
Currently Proton has delivered over 11,000 units of the X50. Proton expects the X50 to be a significant volume contributor not just for 2021, but for the coming years ahead.
