Boosted by strong demand for hybrids, Toyota Corolla Cross overtakes Yaris in Feb 2022 sales

UMW Toyota's (UMWT) reigning start to the year continues, as the company achieved sales of 6,432 units in February 2022, 26.8% better than the 5,074 units registered in the same month last year. It also sees the Toyota Corolla Cross climb up the sales ladder.
While the Toyota Vios and Hilux continue to be the brand's top sellers, while the Corolla Cross overtook the Yaris to become the brand's third best-selling model last month, buoyed by promising sales of the Corolla Cross Hybrid.
The hybrid variant contributed more than 40% of the model's cumulative sales. SST-exempt prices for the Corolla Cross Hybrid starts from RM 136,550 (valid until 30-June 2022).
Meanwhile, UMWT also recently launched the facelifted Toyota Camry, which is now headlined by its 2.5-litre Dynamic Force engine, among aesthetic and feature updates.
Meanwhile, the ramp-up in production by UMW's automotive division sees them deliver 23,853 units (Toyota plus Perodua) in February 2022, a 10.1% increase over the 21,657 units sold in February last year.
Buoyed by strong sales of the Perodua Myvi, Axia, and Bezza, Perodua registered sales of 17,421 units in February 2022, a 5.1% growth compared to the 16,583 units sold in the same month last year. Perodua targets to sell 247,800 units this year, a 30% increase over the 190,291 units sold in 2021.
