The battery-electric vehicle (BEV) Ioniq 5 has just been launched in Malaysia today (3 variants, prices range from RM 199,888 to RM 259,888), but if you've booked one, know that deliveries aren't beginning immediately.

Though brand custodians Hyundai Sime Darby Malaysia (HSDM) aren't able to provide a definite timeline as yet, they estimate that deliveries are only slated to begin several months down the road. Currently there are no customer units, and the cars you see here are brought in for homologation purposes.

This means the prices could see a small bump as deliveries after 30-June 2022 will incur 10% SST on the Ioniq 5's pricing.

However, seeing as its a fully-imported (CBU Korea) BEV, prices for it will still be exempt from import and excise duties, as well as road tax, until 31-December 2023.

Prior to this, the 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric was caught in a similar situation: it was launched here in November 2021, but deliveries for it has only began this month.

Specs and prices of Ioniq 5 in Malaysia

As aforementioned, three variants are sold in Malaysia: the Lite and Plus with a 58 kWh battery, and the range-topping Max with a 72.6 kWh unit. The Plus and Max are all-wheel drive (AWD), while the Lite is rear-wheel drive (RWD).

As usual, the Ioniq 5 has a CCS Combo 2 charging port. A standard 11 kW home AC charger can juice the Ioniq 5 from 0% to 100% in 6 hours, while a 50 kW DC charger can charge from 10% to 80% in just 47 minutes.

WLTP range for the Lite and Plus is 384 km, while the Max returns 430 km. In addition to that, the Ioniq 5 comes with a powerbank-like V2L function, as well as other goodies: all of which you can read in our launch article linked below.
