• EV variant of VW Golf to enter series production in 2025 as VW ID.2all
• To be priced at VW Polo’s level, under 25,000 Euros. Current Mk8 Golf starts at 31,145 Euros
• 450 km driving range, riding on MEB platform

VW’s cheapest EV model is the e-Up! It starts from 29,995 Euros in Germany but not enough people are buying it. The reason is obvious. For reference, the cheapest 1.5-litre TSI Golf (130 PS tune) costs 33,625 Euros.

The irony is that the VW Group sells more Porsche Taycan last year (17,400 units) than the VW e-Up! (17,100 units).

VW’s ID series of battery EV-only models start at 43,995 Euros (ID.3), 46,335 Euros (ID.4), and 47,935 Euros (ID.5) – still too expensive to replace its top selling Golf.

Today, VW announced the VW ID.2all. For now, the car remains a concept but there’s nothing outlandish about this concept car. It’s clearly a VW Golf with fancy headlights and taillights – in other words, a very production-ready car.

VW says a series production version of the ID.2all will hit the European market by 2025, and it will cost less than 25,000 Euros (~RM 120k, local taxes aside).

The ID.2all will one of ten new EV models that VW will launch by 2026.

The electric Golf will be based on the MEB Entry platform, itself an evolution of the MQB platform that underpins the current Golf.

Kai Grünitz, Member of the Brand Board of Management responsible for Technical Development said, “The ID. 2all will be the first MEB vehicle with front-wheel drive. We are exploiting the great flexibility offered by our modular electric drive (MEB) platform and will set new standards in terms of technology and everyday usability with the MEB Entry platform.”

VW is claiming at 226 PS output and 450 km (WLTP) driving range for the ID.2all.

The company is also promising a similar, if not superior level of interior space than equivalent combustion engine models. Boot space is claimed to be at 490 litres, expanding up to 1,330 litres with the seats folded, and false-floor boot utilized.
