In memory of the Tohoku disaster (2011 earthquake and tsunami), Japan has released 2 new Pokemon manhole covers, known as Pokefuta in the Aomori prefecture. Pokemon lovers will have more reason to head over to northern Japan to hunt down these manhole covers!
Pokefutas are becoming more and more popular in rural areas in Japan. The manholes were installed to encourage tourism in less popular areas of Japan.
Each manhole cover features a Pokemon against a backdrop depicting the most popular landmarks of the prefecture they are located in.
The Pokefuta in Aomori features Geodude and Wingull exploring the sky. While another cover features Pyukumuku, Snom, and Pincurchin is placed against one of the prefecture’s scenic lighthouses.
Pokemon Go players would be happy to know that these Pokefuta will also be turned into Pokestops in the game.
If you’re in northern Japan, keep an eye out for these colourful and unique manholes. Check this link, if you’re planning to travel to Japan just to hunt down these manholes after the travel ban is lifted.
We'll save you some time, if you're only interested with finding Pikachu, he's located in Yokohama, Tokyo.
There isnโt a time in memory that doesnโt involve staring at cars. After discovering the excitement of watching Schumacher vs Hakkinen, Formula 1 became a major part of life. The love for cars and F1 ultimately led to a job with CAR Magazine. The untimely death of the magazine meant a hiatus from cars at lifestyle womenโs magazine Marie Claire before another opportunity came knocking again.
