Chery is pulling off something not many Chinese car manufacturers are doing – by confirming that the upcoming Chery Omoda 5 will be exported to numerous overseas markets, including Malaysia, well before the SUV has even gone on sale in its home market, China.

Production of the model has started in China and sources revealed that the Omoda 5 will go on sale in China in Q2 2022, though prices have yet to be confirmed.

Earlier, the Anhui-based manufacturer confirmed that the Omoda 5 will be exported to a number of left-hand drive and right-hand drive markets.

In an earlier press release, the countries that Chery mentioned only included Russia, Europe, Australia, and Malaysia.

More recently, Chery posted this teaser on their social media page, asking users to guess how many countries will the Omoda 5 be exported to. From the teaser photo, it looks like the Omoda 5 will be a global model, as it will be exported to countries like Myanmar, Vietnam, Ukraine, Thailand, Indonesia, South Africa, Brazil, and even Costa Rica. The presence of the matryoshka dolls and pizza hint that the Omoda 5 will find its way to Russia and Italy, respectively.

As a brief refresher, the Chery Omoda 5 is an upcoming subcompact (B/C-segment) crossover that has its sights set on established rivals like the Honda HR-V and Toyota Corolla Cross.

Powering the Chery Omoda 5 is a turbocharged 1.6-litre TGDI petrol engine good for 197 PS and 290 Nm. Electrified versions of the Omoda 5 will be offered in the future too.

Back home, the Chery Omoda 5 is expected to arrive after the introduction of the Tiggo line-up in Malaysia. Recall that the Tiggo line-up is expected to arrive here in Q3 2022.
