Last month, we posted about how important China is to Mercedes-Benz Cars, and that it contributes 36 percent of the three-pointed star’s global passenger car sales.
In a hyper-competitive economy where an S-Class is not seen as a flagship sedan but a minimum acceptable business sedan, and that an E-Class is perceived as a car for a businessman facing cash flow issues, never mind a ‘lowly’ C-Class, every super rich Chinese worth his / her bling wants a Maybach.
Earlier in January, Mercedes-Benz Cars said that it sells more than 900 Maybach models every month in China, which makes out to about 30 Maybachs per day!
Now, the company has revealed a bit more details, saying that the figure is actually more than 1,000 Maybachs a month!
Mercedes-Benz says demand for the Maybach S-Class and Maybach GLS surged after June 2022, and have averaged at over 1,000 cars per month since.
The only exception when sales of Maybachs in China dipped below 1,000 cars per month was in October, when shortage in semiconductor parts hampered deliveries.
Mercedes-Benz Cars also said that global sales of its top-end models, namely AMG, Maybach, S-Class, GLS, G-Class, and EQS models rose by 30 percent in 2021.
G-Class is also a big hit
Revenue for the Mercedes-Benz Group, which includes the cars and vans as well as mobility divisions but minus trucks and buses, reached 168 billion Euros (up from 2020’s 154.3 billion Euros). Group EBIT was 29.1 billion Euros, up from 6.6 billion Euros in 2020.
