Chinese companies interested in making Johor an EV manufacturing hub for export markets 01

Johor could become a significant electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing hub, following reports that certain Chinese companies have expressed interest in establishing factories within in the state.

According The Star, the Johor Import and Export Industry Association (Jimex) are currently in talks with a 13-member Chinese delegation from Wenzhou, China regarding the plant which could serve export markets.

Jimex Deputy President Datuk Seri Farid Ibrahim said, “Johor was chosen by the Chinese companies for this investment due to our strategic location. They are considering three locations for the project: Tanjung Langsat in Pasir Gudang, Tanjung Piai in Pontian, and Pengerang in Kota Tinggi”, he said after a dialogue session with the delegation.

The plant, once operational, is expected to produce 10,000 EVs per month for export to the African market, creating over 10,000 jobs for locals.

In addition to the EV manufacturing plant, the Chinese delegation has shown interest in the agricultural sector, with plans to import livestock and explore duck production for halal exports.

The Chinese delegation from Wenzhou – a port and industrial city in eastern China’s Zhejiang province – led by Lingang Economic Development Zone Director Chen Yuliang, visited Malaysia for 3 days to explore various projects.

This trip was reciprocal, following several visits by the Malaysian delegation to China to negotiate these deals, which include investments totaling USD 800 million (RM 3.76 billion) for a logistics loading centre, a factory, and a chemicals plant.

Passion finally lead to formal training in Mechanical Engineering. Instead of the bigger picture, he obsesses with the final drive ratio and spring rates of cars and spends the weekends wondering why a Perodua Myvi is so fast.
