Chinese drivers say Geely isn’t the best in car tech, guess which brand takes first place?

When it comes to Chinese cars, Malaysians often think of one brand – Geely. If the company had never picked up Proton, surely the stigma that "Chinese cars are bad" would be stuck for years.
The Chinese automotive industry has improved in leaps and bounds over the past ten years and it's also the largest in the world. With numerous car brands offered in the Middle Kingdom, suffice to say that competition is fierce with each company presenting their latest and most advanced models on their respective dealers.
Yet, despite all the advancements done by Geely, be it in electric vehicle (EV) architecture or even in design, the carmaker isn’t listed in the latest J.D. Power China Tech Experience Index(TXI) Study.
J.D. Power is a company that deals with consumer insights and data and analytics. This survey is based on responses from 32,141 ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicle owners who purchased between June 2020 and March 2021 along with 3,976 NEV (new energy vehicles) owners who purchased between September 2020 and March 2021.
The survey results are divided into three categories: luxury ICE vehicles, mass market ICE vehicles, and mass market NEVs.
Mercedes-Benz takes the top place in the luxury ICE vehicle category with a score of 550. Great Wall Motors' (GWM) luxury brand, WEY ranks highest among mass market ICE vehicles with a score of 549.
However, the top three brands in the mass market ICE vehicle category are considered premium brands (WEY, Lynk & Co, and FAW Hongqi). With the three brands removed, the most technologically-advanced mass market brand in China would be Venucia with a score of 518. Venucia is a sub-brand of Dongfeng Nissan.
You might notice that Geely’s name is absent in the list, perhaps the brand did not place above the industry average or that few owners were asked in the survey.
According to J.D. Power, advanced technologies see an increase in usage among Chinese brands with parking assistance and interior gesture controls among the features commonly offered. Still, there are some issues faced by the consumers in the survey with camera rear-view mirror and remote parking among the most complained.

Despite not appearing in the TXI Study, Geely did appear in J.D. Power’s 2021 China Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI) Study with 726 points. Still, it’s far behind from the leading Chinese domestic brand, FAW Hongqi with 738 points.
