Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has announced that the government will be lifting the interstate travel ban in a few days.
In his tweet, Noor Hisham did not state when exactly the travel restriction will be lifted but we estimate that it should be another four or five more days, maybe less if the country reaches 90 percent vaccination rate among adults.
The government had earlier announced that the interstate travel ban would be lifted when 90 percent of the adult population are fully vaccinated.
As of 6-October-2021, the adult vaccination rate has reached 88.8 percent. Based on the numbers of the past few days, we should be able to reach 90 percent in at least four days.
Noor Hisham also took the opportunity to remind travellers to always adhere to the standard operating procedure (SOP) like wearing a mask and observing physical distancing, even for those who are vaccinated.
He also encourages the public to do periodic RTK AG self-testing to keep their loved ones and family safe.
Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin also echoes the sentiment. He said that as the nation is transitioning into endemicity, it would depend on personal responsibility and behaviour in ensuring a safe opening.
