Sales of the Haval H6 C-segment SUV are doing so well in Australia that Haval is looking to expand its variant line-up with the coupe-styled H6. Known as the Haval H6 GT in Australia, the car is expected to go on sale as soon as July.

According to Australian publication GoAuto, GWM Haval Australia originally wanted to launch the car earlier this year, however, the global supply chain disruption had forced the company to delay plans. However, production of the H6 GT finally started in May 2022.

Now, the company is ready to introduce the coupe H6 as the H6 GT (the car was originally launched in China as the H6S) and they have revealed that prices will not stray too far from the remaining range.

Prices for the standard H6 starts from AUD 33,990 (~RM 102,000) and tops off at AUD 46,490 (~RM 140,000).

The rear end features a coupe-like roofline, dual spoilers, and twin exhaust ends. But that’s not where the differences end, though the H6 GT and the standard H6 are essentially the same cars the two models sport a very different appearance even on the front end.

The GT’s front end features a more aggressive design with a wider grille complemented by an air intake at the lower end of the bonnet.

Other than that, while the wheelbase measures the same as the regular H6 at 2,738 mm, the H6 GT measures larger overall at 4,727 x 1,940 x 1,729 mm in length, width, and height.

Under the bonnet lies the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine as the regular H6 that produces 204 PS and 320 Nm. The engine is mated to a seven-speed DCT.

Though the H6 GT is powered by the same engine as the regular H6, Haval has upgraded the coupe with sportier equipment such as Brembo brakes and Michelin tires.

Other than that, the H6 GT also mirrors the safety features in the regular H6 and includes autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go, forward-collision warning, lane-keep assist, and lane-departure warning.

Thanks to the ADAS feature, the H6 GT also scored a perfect 5-Star at the Australasia New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

When the Haval H6 GT goes on sale in Aussie, the model will be the cheapest coupe SUV on sale in the country. Other small coupe SUV examples in the market come from BMW and Mercedes-Benz in the form of the X4 and GLC Coupe.

Closer to home, GWM Sales Malaysia Sdn Bhd only just made its return to our country. But don’t get your hopes up just yet, there is only a slim chance that GWM would launch the coupe H6 in Malaysia. Perhaps if the regular H6 recorded good sales GWM would see fit to bring in the coupe as well? We can only hope.
