IGP announces possible MCO extension to June

As our country enter the third phase of the Movement Control Order, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) made a statement that if the public remains defiant, they will have no choice but continue extending the order until June.

Just 2 days into the third phase, highways within the Klang Valley are reported to be experiencing traffic congestion similar to a normal working day before MCO was implemented. The traffic jam phenomenon has even prompted the National Safety Ministry’s official messaging centre to send out a warning regarding the visible increase in cars on the road.

According to a Harian Metro report, IGP Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said that if positive cases of Covid-19 continues to increase because of those who stubbornly flouts the law, the order could likely extend on until June.

He also reminded everyone that the rules of MCO has not changed from the second phase and that the police are considering heavier penalties for those who continue to disobey the rules of MCO.

There is also word that perhaps many feel the penalty fine of RM 1,000 is not harsh enough to deter violators, the Ministry of Defence might be looking into charging violators in court.
