Long live the Avanza, well if you’re Vietnamese that is, because the all-new 2022 Toyota Avanza FWD will be making its way into the country with a name that was once only reserved for the higher Indonesian variants. To reflect the new, more crossover-like look is the addition of the word “Cross”.
The first batch of the Indonesian-made 2022 Toyota Veloz Cross has arrived in Vietnam based on these images spotted by Vietnamese media via our Indonesian sister site, AutoFun ID. According to said media, the Veloz Cross is planned to be launched in March and will be competing against the very popularMitsubishi Xpander.
Two variants of the Veloz Cross are planned to be launched in Vietnam – Veloz Cross and Veloz Cross Top. No prizes in guessing which one of these is the highest variant.
According to the info, the Veloz Cross will come with automatic LED headlights, leather seats, automatic air cond, electronic parking brake (EPB), and wireless charger as standard.
The differences between the 2 variants are features like 16-inch wheels and an 8-inch infotainment screen on the regular Veloz Cross. The Top variant, meanwhile, comes with 17-inch wheels and a 9-inch infotainment screen.
Aside from the bigger wheels and screen, the Veloz Cross Top is reportedly the only variant to be equipped with Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) ADAS suite which includes pre-collision warning (PCW), rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA), lane departure warning (LDW), and blind-spot warning (BSW).
Powering the Veloz Cross is a 1.5-litre 2NR-VE engine (106 PS/137 Nm) that is paired to a CVT automatic transmission. Prices are estimated to start from VND 689 million (~RM 127k) for the Veloz Cross Top and some dealers are reportedly receiving deposits even before Toyota Vietnam makes an official announcement.
Meanwhile, the Veloz name could likely make its way into Malaysia too, subsequently replacing the Avanza. The upcoming Veloz is also reported to be locally assembled (CKD) alongside the 2022 Perodua Alza and will not be discontinued entirely in the country.
