The Honda WR-V has been tearing up the Indonesian market since its debut back in November 2022. According to the latest sales data by GAIKINDO, 1,765 units of the WR-V have been sold in April 2023.

Of the total sales figures for that month, the most popular variant is the WR-V RS which saw 890 units sold. The Honda WR-V is offered in Indonesia in 3 variants – E, RS, and RS with Honda Sensing. The trio of variants are equipped with the same powertrain – a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre i-VTEC (121 PS/145 Nm) paired with a CVT automatic gearbox.

That is a significantly bigger engine that also offers more power than its closest rivals, the Toyota Raize and Daihatsu Rocky. The Indonesian cousins to the Perodua Ativa trailed behind the WR-V with all 9 variants of the Raize selling a mere 594 units and all 7 variants of the Rocky selling only 487 units in April.

Despite both the Raize and Rocky having more choices in terms of variants, the WR-V has clearly won over Indo buyers despite having far fewer variants. Both the Raize and Rocky are offered in Indonesia with a choice of a turbocharged 1.0-litre 3-cylinder (98 PS/140 Nm) or a naturally-aspirated 1.2-litre 3-pot (88 PS/113 Nm) paired to a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT.

The WR-V’s dominance in the Indonesian compact SUV market is also seen in the first 4 months of the year so far with 6,671 units sold compared to the Raize’s 6,011 units and Rocky’s 2,158 units.

In Indonesia, the WR-V is priced within the range of the highest-spec Rocky/Raize. For comparison, the best-selling variant of the WR-V, the RS is priced at IDR 289.9 million (~RM 88k) while the top variant of the Raize/Rocky is priced at IDR 283 million (~RM 86k).

Closer to home, the WR-V will be arriving in Malaysia soon as spyshots of Honda’s Ativa rival on our roads have been making their rounds online. Granted, the Ativa will still have a price advantage and we expect the WR-V to be priced around the RM 90,000 mark when it is launched here.
