Earlier this month, we shared some leaked information about the upcoming 2021 Proton Persona facelift (MC2). Now, here's a scoop on the imminent 2021 Proton Iriz facelift, courtesy of leaked documents sighted by this publication.

No more manual, 2 colours from X50, LED headlights

Much like its sedan stablemate, the Iriz will also receive a redesigned front-end, courtesy of a new bumper and grille. We know that this also constitutes Proton's new roundel-type logo.

Curiously, it seems that the Standard variant's front parking sensors will also be removed.

Round the back, it's mentioned that the hatchback will receive tail lamps with new finishing, but apart from that the rear end largely looks the same.

Elsewhere, there's new 15- and 16-inch wheel designs across the Iriz range, but the two higher-up variants will also get 16-inch spare tyres.

And speaking of range, the Iriz line-up will soon be a short one: manual transmission variants will be culled, as will the 1.3 Executive (CVT).

This leaves the facelifted Iriz coming in just three variants: 1.3 Standard, 1.6 Executive, and the crossover-styled 1.6 Active.

Yes, there's LED headlights but they seem to be exclusive to the range-topping Iriz Active. Also bespoke to the Active variant are a set of roof rails.

Citric Orange X50

Capping off the exterior changes are two new colours borrowed from the Proton X50, which are Citric Orange and Passion Red, although the latter is only available on the Active.

Refreshed interior, voice command, new headunit

Like earlier spyshots reveal, the interior sees a holistic redesign, now coming with a digital air-conditioning/climate control unit with control knobs on either side.

Besides the new digital air-cond display, here are some new standard features:

  • 2 USB ports at the centre console (total 6)
  • 1 USB port for dashcam
  • New gear lever
  • New seat upholstery
  • Centre armrest
  • Tweaked instrument cluster
  • Non-woven headliner (replacing the current car's Tricot material)

Also, the Iriz facelift's rear-view mirror will no longer keep the transparent frame, going back to a more convenational-looking frame.

Meanwhile, the Executive and Active variants will get a new 8-inch floating-type touchscreen infotainment system (with voice commands), while the base Standard variant will keep its 7-inch touchscreen.

The Active variant also adds rear passenger seatbelt reminder, as well as sportier pedals and carpets.

At least 4 airbags, still no mention of ADAS

Safety-wise, the Standard variant will benefit from side airbags, bringing the total to 4.

The mid-range Executive will also get those, but with additional curtain airbags, matching the range-topping Active's 6-airbag count.

As much as we'd like to see it, chances of the Iriz getting ADAS features remains slim as there were no mentions of it in our source documents.

Same 1.3- and 1.6-litre engines, new drive modes

Typical of facelifts, it seems that the 1.3-litre (95 PS / 120 Nm) and 1.6-litre (109 PS / 150 Nm) engines will remain unchanged.

The CVT, however, will be tweaked slightly, now offering 5 virtual speeds. A source close to the matter also mentioned that the Iriz will come with a drive mode selector, offering Eco and Sport mode.
