Do you own a Chevrolet? There is a recall for the Sonic and Cruze

Chevrolet may have exited the South East Asian market, but in some countries, they still provide after-sales support.

One such country is Thailand, as Chevrolet Thailand announced a recall for the Takata airbag inflator, affecting models such as the Chevrolet Cruze and Chevrolet Sonic.

For the Chevrolet Cruze, 2011 to 2015 model year units are affected, while Sonic units built between 2013 to 2014 are affected. Both the sedan and hatchback versions of the Sonic are affected. One can check the status of their car here - Chevrolet Thailand's recall page.

Chevrolet Thailand is urging customers of these vehicles to take their vehicles to a Chevrolet service centre to get the airbag inflator replaced. Chevrolet Thailand still operates 85 service centres in the Kingdom.

What about Malaysia?

A quick check of some VINs of Chevrolet models in Malaysia reveals that quite a number of units are affected by this recall. Unfortunately for Chevrolet owners in Malaysia, the last distributor, Naza Quest, shuttered in late-2018.

When Chevrolet announced their plans to exit the Malaysian market, the company was supposed to appoint a new distributor, but that didn't happen and Chevrolet abadoned its customers here.
