After 4 years of hiatus, Chery is set to return to Malaysia later this year. A source from China has confirmed that Chery is set for a Q3 2022 relaunch here.
One of the models that will likely find its way here is the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro. The model is called the Tiggo 8 Plus in China.

More recently, images of a purported Chery Tiggo 8 Pro for China surfaced, hinting that Chery has plans to introduce Pro-branded models in their home market.
In China, Chery offers several variants of the Tiggo 8 Plus, including 5-, 6-, and 7-seater versions, across two powertrain options.
The first is a turbocharged 1.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that does 190 PS and 290 Nm, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

The second powertrain is a 48V mild-hybrid (MHEV) system that combines a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine and belt starter generator for a combined system output of 156 PS and 230 Nm. The MHEV-equipped Tiggo 8 Plus is hooked up to a CVT transmission.
While the regular Tiggo 8 Plus gets a 7-speed DCT in China, export versions swap it out for a CVT transmission instead, as seen in the Indonesian-spec Tiggo 8 Pro.

Visually, the export-spec Chery Tiggo 8 Pro is nearly identical to the Chinese Tiggo 8 Plus, down to its large, intricate front grille flanked by LED headlights and tastefully placed chrome trim bits.
Towards the sides, there are massive 19-inch dual-tone wheels, and more chrome trim pieces, including a large piece that is placed on the lower half of the doors.
As for the rear-end, the LED tail lights get vertical lighting elements, giving the Tiggo 8 Plus a very unique design. Twin muffler tips and a lower bumper trim complete the rear-end of the Tiggo 8 Plus.
Moving inside, the Tiggo 8 Pro is very well appointed, with two-tone black and brown leather seats and Sony-branded speakers adorning the interior.
There’s also a large floating-style infotainment system that supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

In terms of safety, being the flagship Tiggo model, the Tiggo 8 Pro comes equipped with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane change assist, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert.
When the Chery Tiggo 8 arrives in Malaysia, it will square off against 7-seater rivals like the upcoming Proton X90, Mazda CX-8, and to a certain extent, the Toyota Fortuner.
