Elephant pissed off when honked at, takes rage out on Axia

If you think you’re having a bad day, nothing can top the evening the 5 passengers in this Perodua Axia had yesterday. As they were making their way to Perak from Kelantan, they encountered a very enraged elephant that rampaged on the car forcing the passengers to abandon the vehicle.

Unfortunately, the entire incident was of no fault of the Axia passengers. According to a witness, the Axia was travelling along Jalan Raya Timur Barat (JRTB) near Gerik around 7 pm on 2/8/2020 when it came across the elephant. 

It was not clear whether the elephant was lounging across the road when the Axia came across it, but the driver came to an emergency stop to avoid hitting the animal all the same. All was good until the car behind the Axia honked at them for stopping.

According to the witness, the elephant became agitated when it heard the honk and took its rage out on the Axia. Fortunately, the passengers were able to escape the car before the elephant could do more damage to the car and hurt them in the process

The passengers were then forced to abandon the car and hitch a ride back to the Puncak Banjaran Titiwangsa rest stop.

The head of the Gerik police force, Superintendent Zulkifli Mahmood said that after a brief investigation, the Axia only suffered from minor damage but highlight that the most important part was nobody was hurt.

Director of the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP/ Perhilitan) Perak, Yusof Shariff, also released a statement regarding the incident. According to Yusof, DWNP has deployed staff to the location to carry out a complete investigation and are currently doing a sweep of the area.

DWNP also reminded road users to be patient when they come across a wild animal when driving. Do not use high beam when driving in the area at night and most importantly do not honk or attempt to chase the animal off the road.
