Arguably one of the most popular German C-segment hatchbacks has returned to Malaysia, as Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has opened bookings for the new 2022 Volkswagen Golf TSI R-Line Mk8. Estimated prices for the CKD 2022 VW Golf Mk8 starts from RM 155k to RM 165k.

The estimated prices are lower than the previous-generation Mk7.5 Golf as the model is now locally-assembled (CKD) at DRB-Hicom's plant in Pekan, Pahang.

The previous-generation Mk7.5 Golf was imported (CBU) from Germany.

Under the sleek new hood lies a turbocharged 1.4-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that outputs 150 PS and 250 Nm, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the front wheels. The Mk8 Golf R-Line also offers XDS, VW’s electronic differential lock to improve traction.

Standard equipment on the Mk8 Golf R-Line include LED headlights, 17-inch Valencia alloy wheels, R-Line styling pack, and IQ Light LED tail lights. There’s also a 10-inch fully-digital instrument cluster, fabric upholstery, and 10-inch Discover Media infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In terms of safety, the Mk8 Golf R-Line offers six airbags and stability control. ADAS isn’t fitted to the Malaysian-spec Golf.

The Golf R-Line is available in five colours, including Moonstone Grey, Kings Red, Atlantic Blue, Deep Black, and Oryx White.

As with other VPCM models, the Mk8 Golf R-Line is backed by a 5-year, unlimited mileage warranty. The German hatchback also includes 3 years / 45,000 km free maintenance package as well as 5 years roadside assistance.
